Trending – the ugly sneaker is here to stay

Call it signature piece and go with it – they’re comfy after all

2017 has been the year of a lot of “come backs” fashion wise and also the year of the so called ugly sneakers. Starting with crocs, pool slides and birkenstocks, fashionable footwear designers have been bringing on the forefront the idea that ugly is cool – now it seems the world of sneakers is following the trend as well. After fashion month has come to an end, it looks like this trend is not going anywhere and maybe it’s time to get into it – in case you haven’t done it yet!

Classic ugly sneakers like New Balance, Karhu, and Nike Air Monarchs are more popular than ever. Remember the old school running sneakers? The classic New Balance 990 series is the perfect example of the everyday running shoe. Known for its thick rubber sole and monochromatic exterior, it is all about functionality and performance for real athletes. This time even the best designers in the world are doing the real ugly lifting in their own fashionable way. Think of Givenchy, Kanye West’s Yeezy Boost 700s, or Raf Simons’ Adidas Ozweego sneakers. Common Projects even made its own version a bulkier running sneaker (albeit in their own tasteful way). And Balenciaga’s quadruple soled Triple S trainers remain the undisputed ugly champ. Nonetheless, these designer kicks are the coolest things on the market right now! Some of our favorite brands, such as Stella McCartney and Acne Studios offer their version of ugly sneakers, that we quite like as well! Stella McCartney Eclypse sneakers have a modern kick and add a cool and easy attitude to your new season wardrobe. Mixing alter-calf, alter-micro suede and neoprene, the sneaker uppers reflect the brand’s cruelty-free stance using non-leather materials.

Stella McCartney’s constant commitment towards sustainability has developed in a collaboration with Parley for the Oceans to raise awareness for ocean conservation and initiates the Parley AIR Strategy to fight marine plastic pollution. By supporting Parley’s mission to end the destruction of the oceans through creative collaboration and eco innovation Stella McCartney expands the brand’s existing efforts towards creating a positive environmental impact with the use of alternative materials. To celebrate the collaboration, the designer has created the new Adidas by Stella McCartney Parley Ultra BOOST. Definitely not really ugly shoes but they definitely need as much attention as the latest for the collaboration with Parley for the Oceans!
