Saying thanks is an underrated form of art – why not promote it via your shirt?
I’ve picked “Today’s Thing” as it’s about an underrated form of art. The art of saying “Thank you” while meaning it, too. I’m a great fan of being appreciated and I like to think that I’m also quite thankful for all the good, small and big, that I am given each and every day of my live. Yet when I think about when’s the last time I said thanks to someone – and I’m not talking about an absentminded nod to the lady at the supermarket who kindly shuffles my groceries from her to me – I know that while I do say thanks, I’m rather certain I could do it way more often.
It’s easy to take things for granted especially if they are part of a routine. As a kid I used to wonder why my parents would sometimes remind me of the work they did to keep our family thriving. Today I realize that, yes, a warm meal doesn’t prep itself, the laundry doesn’t miraculously do itself and the fridge doesn’t fill automatically. Not to mention kind words by strangers, people being helpful and mindful without expecting to get anything in return. All of that takes effort and whoever is doing it deserves some attention and gratitude.
So when I’m suggesting you have a look at the Stella McCartney spring summer 2017 collection and the “Thanks girls” t-shirt especially, I’m not saying you should put on a t-shirt that takes care of saying thanks while you go on as ususal. I’m more advertising it as an idea that I believe Stella McCartney herself stands for, the idea of being thankful for our fellow females wether friend or foe (I would actually extend that to being thankful and appreciative as a general rule, to all living beings). I see the shirt more as a reminder to being mindful of each other. If this sounds preachy add a hearty Amen here. I still mean it.
