Catching up with the velvet trend

I never got it, but now I do: Here’s how you do velvet right!

The velvet trend used to give me goosebumps. As a kid my mom liked to dress me up in velvet sweaters. And I despised them with all my might. Now I’m not a little girl but a grown woman and lets just say: I made my peace with velvet. No actually, I finally get it. This season we have seen velvet a bit everywhere, all the way from the shows  – such as Acne Studios, Filippa K, Stella McCartney – to the streets. Celebs and so called influencers have been showing off their best pieces in London, Paris, Milan … and they actually looked glamourous! My memory of this quite unique fabric is limited to my sweaters and pajamas at home… yes I know, not as glamorous as walking on the streets of New York or Paris…but I was strolling in my home in Rome (and that wasn’t so bad, either).

So inspite of my childhood memories, this winter I bought my first Stella McCarteny velvet trousers, in which I have started living and cannot take them off anymore (obviously figuratively speaking). The reason why I waited so long is because I have always been skeptical on how to style velvet and I didn’t really know how to wear it. Then I realized what was the key piece: a good basic t-shirt

After this – how french would call it – “coup de coeur” I couldn’t stop and have become obsessed with velvet. I own now 5 pieces: two pants, one dress and two tops. And I am not planning to stop as it’s sale season and I have already put my eyes on some good really deals that I am going to share with you!

Among my favorite velvet items for the everyday life I found these Filippa K red top and pants. You can wear them together or if you are not too much into red you can mix the top with these Stella McCartney trousers, which are on sale at the moment!

If you are looking for some evening dress, here your dose of velvet. You can opt for a long Acne Studios or Edun dress – keep your eyes open, they are both on sale! And if you feel like wearing them during the day you can match them with a basic t-shirt, like the one below. It will make the difference!

If you are more of a “short dress” type, then these red Acne Studios and the Eckhaus Latta gold dress will make the difference – and they are on sale as well. Don’t be shy, go out and dare!
