Shoe of the day: The Birckenstock
All you need to know about the “”ugly shoes”
It looks like 2017 is the lucky year for our beloved feet. Forget high heels, pointy shoes and anything that’s uncomfortable…the “ugly shoes” are back! They have been one of the hottest topic of the season. Fashionistas and celebrities have embraced them, transforming them in It shoes. The fancy and uncomfortable shoes have officially been replaced by crogs, birkenstocks and crocs!. And now more than ever, the trend shows no sign of fading. From Christopher Kane Crocs collaboration, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi flatform collaboration with Ugg to MSGM, Markus Lupfer, Masion Margiela and Anna Sui the list is long. The ugly shoes have hit the catwalks in several versions, embellished, decorated and printed – they are definitely no ordinary crocs this season!
What amazes me the most is the reason behind this trend. I have never been a fan of crocs or birkenstocks, but I have to admit that since they have hit the catwalks and more, I have found myself looking at them with a different eye. Even the idea of buying a pair has crossed my mind…In a recent interview Jennifer Baumgartner, a clinical psychologist and author of You Are What You Wear, recently gave a highly plausible theory behind it. She states, “There’s now less social pressure focused on your feet. Wearers are less interested in trying to flatter, conceal, or make their feet look better. That’s distinct from the fear we feel about clothing because of the stigma surrounding body type and size, especially in an age where they’re bombarded with images online and on social media.” This means these days we’re all less worried about how our feet look and more interested in how they feel. Are you falling for these shoes but not sure on how to fit it with your style? Well there is an alterative to the more extravagant crocs…I am talking about the birkenstocks. I have recently learned how to to appreciate these shoes and I have to admit that if you find the right color and model you wont take them off anymore!
