Raw material makes a difference at Vyayama

This New York based brand offers great yoga wear from conscious production

These days there are plenty of sustainable yoga brands – which is great – but not all of them deliver great products. Sometimes the ethically sourced raw materials suffer after going through a handful of washcycles already. Not so with New York based brand Vyayama, a name that looks complicated but rolls off the tongue swiftly – it’s pronounced ‘vai-ah’mah’ and is a 3000 year old sanskrit word which means “to move” and ‘to tame the inner breath’. Thanks to the TENCEL® fabric Vyayama uses, that is crafted in Europe from sustainably farmed eucalyptus you can now do both.

Oftentimes sustainable yoga gear is made from organic cotton that’s blended with a bit of Elasthane. It looks great at the beginning but softens and fades quickly while losing shape. The TENCEL®  Vyayama uses on the other hand is blended to be smooth and supportive and most of all lasting. As a renewable fibre it’s ecofriendly to start with and has been certified non- toxic and it hold the OEKOtex 100 standard as well. In terms of designs you will find a nice range of subtle monochrome silhouettes as well as more lively patterns. All of them fit any body shape and have almost sold out at London departmentstore Selfridges that picked up the collection as part of their Material World edition – a curated selection of ethical desigers launched during London Fashion Week.

I personally like the patterend leggins best when combined with the black crop top from the Kalablak collection. If you live in a warmer climate than Berlin right now you can even take them out for a run or a hike at dusk or dawn – the pants are reflective and you won’t risk getting run over by a car or coyote.
