Try this – learn how to use a face roller

Six easy steps to properly use a face roller

The face roller trend has made a mysterious appearance since quite some time now. I remember seeing these tools on Instagram and beauty blogs without really understanding their role. I started doing some research and it got quite interesting.  Jade rollers aren’t new in skincare. They originate from Chinese skincare routines since the 7th century, and are believed to have healing and protective properties. The two jade stone heads boost blood circulation, reduce swelling, and help your skincare products penetrate deeper. Basically, they’re supposed to be a quick, easy cure for daily skincare struggles like dark under-eye circles and puffiness from fatigue. Let’s be honest, there is nothing worse than waking up after a night out with a swollen face. The increase in circulation can also help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. The most known benefit of using a jade roller is that it helps to reduce puffiness and inflammation in the face due to stagnation of the lymphatic system. If you put it into the fridge before using it, it will help to tighten pores.

To get the best out of it, the roller should be used after getting out of the shower or cleansing your skin. You’ll start to see some results with continued daily use, massaging your face with a jade roller can instantly relieve tension by running it along your brows and jawline. However, like any skin-care tool, there’s a proper technique to follow in order to maximize its benefits.

1. Start at the chin, and roll horizontally out to the hairline. The pressure should be light and comfortable on the skin.

2. Move up to the nose, and roll from the corner of the nose out towards the ears.

3. Use the small end of the jade roller, and place it in the inner corner of the eye. Roll out toward the temples.

4. Place the roller on the eyebrows, and roll downwards, ending at the temples.

5. Roll from the eyebrows upwards to the hairline, moving across the forehead.

6. Finish by rolling the middle of the forehead horizontally out towards the temples.

After all different opinions and videos I decided I wanted to try it on my own skin. I have to admit that I didn’t have the consistency to do it regularly. The first week I managed to do it every day and now I just do it when I remember about it. My personal opinion is really simple: it is a pleasant feeling to have this cold stone on your face and massaging it (I like to keep it in the freezer). There has been a slight improvement of my skin when I was doing it regularly but nothing extreme. I will keep doing it because I definitely like the feeling and if at the same time I can help my skin without damaging it, why not?!
