Living Coral is the trend color of 2019
Here’s how to wear it in an easy way
The Pantone Color Institute has officially announced that 2019’s color of the year is “Living Coral”. You might not be aware of it, but every year this Color expert institution nominates an official color trend. The process behind it is actually pretty rigorous. Several people from all different industries including tech, home, and fashion, figure out what the color will be for the year based on upcoming trends and general mood. The decision to nominate a specific color has a differrent meaning every time. Last year the company’s trend was Ultra Violet, a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade” as a reflection to the current world situation. This year’s “living coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color”. It is described as an “animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Pantone Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity,” said the company. Living- Coral also underlines the important role of coral reefs in our environment, and in the color name, the denotation of coral as “living” (a hope) instead of “dying” (the facts). A reminder of how we need to protect the environment in today’s world.
Practically speaking, we are going to see a lot more of this color next summer, both on the runways and in stores. Marc Jacobs led the pack with an entirely pastel-hued collection that included several blush coral looks; Miuccia Prada focused on sweet coral camisoles with matching space-age headbands and more. With all options, there’s really no reason not to wear coral in 2019. Here you’ll find a selection of items from our favorite sustainable brands.
